Jewelry Care Guide
We encourage customers to take extra care when wearing our jewelry daily. Here's a good rule of thumb to remember: jewelry should be "first off and last on". Last on means putting on your jewelry after you have completed all personal grooming, including clothing, make-up, nails, hair styling and perfume. Some of the chemicals in these products can damage your jewelry. Clothing can snag on prongs and damage both the ring and your cute sweater! First off means you should remove all jewelry before you begin to undress or remove any make-up, for the same reasons mentioned above.
Jewelry should be removed when doing any rough hand work or strenuous activity. Things like lifting weights, gardening, swimming or exercising can damage the stones, settings and/or shape of the ring. Remove jewelry before going to bed to avoid snagging prongs on blankets, etc.
Bathing or cleaning in your jewelry is not recommended because these chemicals can damage the integrity of your stones. Chlorine and bleach are especially to be avoided because they can damage the stones and eat away at the alloys in metals.
To keep your ring looking clean, it is best to remove your ring before washing your hands, showering, or applying lotion. These things can build up under the stones and cause them to become cloudy and even loosen stones over time.
If you want to clean your jewelry at home here are some steps that you can take:
- Polish, using a lint-free, 100% cotton cloth
- Brush gently, using a soft toothbrush, lukewarm water, and gentle dish soap
- Before and after cleaning, check to see that the stone is still tightly set - especially if using a steam cleaner
- Never use an ultrasonic cleaner on pearls, emeralds, or turquoise
