ABOUT
Margaret Athanas founded In the Light of Day Jewelry to provide heirloom quality pieces made with intention while maintaining integrity through sourcing transparency and environmental awareness. A female founded studio based in North Carolina: each piece uses carefully sourced stones and recycled gold because we care about the impact our products have on other people’s lives.
Women Empowerment
In the Light of Day was founded by a woman and seeks to support and empower other women through our supply chain partnerships and employment opportunities. Many of our mining partners are women who are breaking into a traditionally male dominated field. In the Light of Day Jewelry is proud that our partnership supports their ongoing education in mining practices, safety and business acumen.
Sourcing Transparency
In the Light of Day prides itself on providing ethically sourced gemstones and diamonds. We partner with a small group of pioneers in the gem trade who provide sustainably mined and fair-trade gemstones. Our diamonds are lab grown, antique, or post-consumer, meaning they had a previous life in another piece of jewelry. This helps offset the need for newly mined materials. Similarly, we use recycled gold wherever possible in our designs to limit our impact on the mining of new gold.
Environmental Impact
Whenever possible, In the Light of Day Jewelry chooses cleaner studio practices that are both better for the environment and our team. For example, replacing toxic polishing and cleaning solutions with more natural options. We aim to keep as much of our production local to minimize our carbon footprint and oversee the quality of all the elements that go into the making of our jewelry. The result is a better quality product that makes a positive impact in the jewelry industry.
